As I trudged home through Kings Cross station earlier this week, the strap on my old Fendi bag snapped. I had bought the decaying thing in March and had never treated it well: stuffing it into a landfill of spare shoes, laptops and (still unread) hardback books, and leaving it to rot under other people’s dirty coats at corporate events. I should (but probably won’t) fix it. The breakage had – for obvious reasons – rendered the bag almost useless. An oversized, drab clutch. I couldn’t sling it over my shoulder like I used to, instead wrapping my entire arm around the body of the bag, as the models did at the Miu Miu and Prada spring 2025 shows. But the proactive gesture felt more like a statement of style than the monogrammed case itself. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s not about the bag, but the attitude you have when carrying it.
