Of course, every movement for social change requires moments of sudden acceleration. They don’t happen in a straight line, nor do they come easily. There are no real turning points, just catalysts for evolution. But that evolution needs to happen much faster. Yes, some things have changed since 2017; workplaces have anti-harassment policies, the use of nondisclosure agreements is declining, women know that collective voices have power and courage is contagious. They also know how to better describe what happened to them—and that it may be a crime. Yet it seems the odds are still stacked against those who speak up. It’s time to say Time’s Up—not just while the headlines last, but forever.

It’s no surprise that so many of my group chats are filled with women asking versions of “How many more?” Many of us can’t believe we’re having these same conversations almost exactly seven years after the Weinstein scandal broke. In many ways, it feels like we’re right back where we started. Except, this time, we know how it goes: allegations surface, the floodgates open, more survivors speak out, the backlash begins, and… has anything really changed?
