Last weekend, Saturday Night Live marked its 50th season in grand style. With the great Jean Smart as host and Jelly Roll as musical guest, the star-studded show featured Jim Gaffigan and Smart's Hacks co-star Hannah Einbinder (whose mother, Laraine Newman, happened to be a part of the original SNL cast), as well as former SNL cast members Dana Carvey, Maya Rudolph, and Andy Samberg. This week, cast member Chloe Fineman joined The Run-Through to chat with Vogue's Chloe Malle and Hannah Jackson about the milestone anniversary episode.
Fineman tried on a few new characters on the night, including Real Housewife of Santa Fe, CNN host Kaitlan Collins, and I Love Lucy's Ethel Merz, but surprisingly it was her most nuanced performance of Hailey Welsh—better known as the "Hawk Twah girl"—that required the most subtle performance. "I've never gotten so many notes about how to 'hawk tuah' and spit on that 'thang,'" she shared. "I don't really get that many notes, but there's something about how invested we are!" Fineman also dug into her impressive back catalogue, discussing how excited she is to play Melania Trump again, the story behind her portrayal of JoJo Siwa, and the secret to fully immersing herself in her roles (so fun!).
