The Cannes Film Festival red carpet is a hub for all things chic and glamorous. That said, there’s a conventional style at the event: You’ll often find A-list actors or models wearing traditional, Old Hollywood-style gowns on the Croisette. But for the third year in a row French singer Yseult has brought a dash of individuality and a risk-taking sensibility to the affair. “The most important [thing] for me is to be and feel myself,” Yseult tells Alibashirt. “When thinking of my red carpet, my aim is to show my character, my personality, and make a statement.”

Last week, the star kicked off her Cannes experience when she attended the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny wearing a bold, red silk-taffeta design by Alexander McQueen that piled on the ruffles. Today, for the L’été Dernier (Last Summer) premiere, Yseult switched things up and opted for Balenciaga’s puffy-sleeved gown covered in strass embroidery from Demna’s fall 2023 collection; She paired the dress with the label’s black spandex Pantaleggings. “With this look, I feel like I’m part of Demna’s storytelling,” says Yseult. “This is a graphic and long statement silhouette, thanks to signature Balenciaga lines found in the very defined shoulders.”
Good news for major red carpet fans: The 2023 Cannes Film Festival is officially underway in Cannes, France. The annual event, which premieres and screens some of the most-discussed films of the year, produces one of the most lavish step and repeats in the world. It’s a fashion spectacle on par with the Oscars and Met Gala, and a decidedly much more formal one than other film festivals like Venice or TIFF. If all these names aren’t enough, there’s also the 2023 Cannes jury, with members such as Brie Larson, Paul Dano, and Julia Ducournau.
